Chapter 6

Mason

“You got a lot of nerve, calling me,” I told Ian over the phone. It had been a week since I heard anything from Ian, not that I was expecting to, but I kinda hoped I would hear something. Some kind of remorse. So, when he finally called, I thought I would feel some type of way, like excited, but honestly, I was just annoyed. “You heard what Cooper said. I don’t know what he’ll do if you show up here and honestly Ian, I don’t want you here. Having Cooper here reminded me I need to have more self-respect. You’re an asshole who ruined what could have been a great thing.”

Ian went on and on begging, but I was honestly done and told him that. “I’m done, Ian. Cooper will drop your things off later to your doorstep. Beyond that, you can stop calling me, stop texting me, and don’t ever think of coming by again. Cooper already changed the locks.”

He finally hung up and I let out a breath of relief, feeling the tension in my shoulders instantly leave. It made me realize just how long I’d been holding that tension. It’d been months.

Cooper caught me off guard. “I’m proud of you.”

Spinning around from where I was standing, I smiled at him. “Thanks. It felt good to stand up for myself. I know I don’t have a good track record of that.”

He shook his head. “That doesn’t matter. What matters is right now.”

“You’re right. You always know what to say.”

Cooper smiled and said, “Eh. There’s some wisdom floating around in here…” He pointed to his head making me chuckle a bit.

I asked, “What do you want to do today? I know I’ve kept us pretty busy since you got here, and I feel like time is flying. I want it to slow down. You’re leaving in less than two weeks.”

“I do feel like it’s going fast. It’s ok though. What if we just movie marathon it up all day. Stay in and chill?” He asked, but he lit up which let me know that was exactly what he wanted to do.

“That sounds perfect!” I said.

Coop yelled, “Woo! Let’s go, Dragon.”

“Fine, Nighthawk. I’ll make the hot chocolate.”
